Vancouver power pop titans, The New Pornographers, will headline the 2016 Vancouver Folk Music Festival, July 15-17, at Jericho Beach.
Hopefully The New Pornographers, who are A.C. Newman, Blaine Thurier, Dan Bejar, John Collins, Kathryn Calder, Neko Case and Todd Fancey, won’t fall victim to the recent “headliner curse” that put a damper on the last two Vancouver folk fests.
In 2014, main headliner Joan Baez, 75, cancelled her appearance just 24 hours before she was set to take the stage, hampered by laryngitis. Last year, 73-year-old bluesman Taj Mahal, who was scheduled to close the VFMF, cancelled his entire summer tour due to health concerns.
Also on the bill this year are Canadian folk-rock legend Bruce Cockburn, slam poet Shane Koyczan and his band the Short Story Long, and the Wainwright Sisters (Martha and Lucy).
Weekend passes, which range from $65 for youth and $155 for adults, are available HERE.
