A rarity for Pennsylvania
Although it happened in 2008, a presidential primary of consequence in Pennsylvania is rare.
A presumptive candidate from each of the two major parties usually has been picked by the time the state’s April primary arrives. Not this year.
Both parties’ nominations remain contested. Hillary Clinton is the front runner for the Dems. Donald Trump is leading for the GOP.

The Lehigh Valley's diverse political makeup
The Lehigh Valley has backed the Democrats in the last three presidential elections, but is hardly a solidly blue region. The local results of Tuesday's primaries on both sides provide some insight into just how diverse we are when it comes to politics.
Each dot on the following maps represents the more than 300 precincts in the Lehigh Valley where voters cast ballots on Tuesday. Zoom in to locate your precinct. Click on the dot to find the name, address and where each candidate placed there.
Note the maps are based on unofficial results compiled by voter registration offices in both Lehigh and Northampton counties.

Donald Trump dominates
Of the five candidates competing in the two major parties, no one came close to Republican Donald Trump in terms of dominating the Lehigh Valley. Green dots on the map represent a win, yellow a second-place finish and red a third-place finish. Trump won virtually every precinct in the region.

Closer call for Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton won Northampton County on the Democratic side, but Bernie Sanders put up a noticeable fight. Clinton was particularly strong in the suburbs closest to the Valley’s three cities. Green represents a win; red represents a loss.

Sanders wins dozens of precincts
Sanders may not have won the state or the region, but he came close. He took a majority of the precincts in the Slate Belt, some of the region’s larger boroughs and also fared well in the several of the three cities’ neighborhoods.

John Kasich not a factor
