Sweet maker targeting growth

Blackwood-based sweet maker Bon Bon Buddies is targeting the acquisition of distribution rights to more confectionery brands as part of its growth strategy.

The company outlined its plans as part of a feature on Welsh Business Champions in the latest issue of the Wales Business Insider.

It is expected to report turnover of £44m and a pre-tax profit of £2.5m in its current financial year, which end 30 April 2016.

This equates to 13 per cent growth in turnover and 311 per cent growth in pre-tax profit when compared year-on-year.

During 2015, it appointed a new executive team to lead the company and has implemented a five-year plan to grow its 'all year round' business to 60 per cent of annual turnover.

It also hopes to develop its own brand products, including Surprize Qubes and Brain Blasterz, to achieve an annual turnover of £12m per year.

Justin Thomas (pictured), managing director of Bon Bon Buddies, said: "Currently, Bon Bon Buddies distributes for leading confectionery brands from around the world, such as PEZ, Original Gourmet Lollies, Heidi Chocolate, Zaini and The Jelly Bean Factory.

"As a part of a five-year plan, our aim is to acquire distribution rights of even more leading confectionery brands."

Details of Welsh business champions can be found in the April/May edition of the Wales Business Insider.
