It is time to make nominations for the SIA OHS Education Awards. This call for nominations for the 2016 SIA OHS Education Awards refers to graduates who completed their qualification requirements in the calendar year 2015. Nominations close on the 23rd May, 2016 and the awards will be presented in September in Sydney.

The Safety Institute of Australia joins with the Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board to offer the annual SIA OHS Education awards. The purpose of these awards is to provide an opportunity for students studying occupational health and safety at university level, and demonstrating high levels of achievement and initiative, to be recognised by the Safety Institute of Australia. These awards are not designed to recognise the highest academic achiever, but to recognise the potential in students who display consistently high academic standards, practical skills and a commitment to, and involvement in, occupational health and safety.

There are three awards; the Eric Wigglesworth OHS Education (Research) Award, the National OHS Education (Postgraduate) Award and the National OHS Education (Undergraduate) Award. In addition to the recognition associated with being a winner of one of these awards the winner receives a professional development fund to value of $5000 at the doctoral level or $2000 at the postgraduate and undergraduate levels. The educational institution from which the winner has graduated is also recognised. Information on each of the awards is attached.

Nominations for the undergraduate and postgraduate awards are made by the program coordinator by completing the relevant nomination form in the attached document. At the Doctorial and Masters by Research level nominations may be made by the thesis supervisor, the graduate may self- nominate or a peer may make the nomination.
