Mercury keeps fluctuating in region

Over the past week, Saurashtra and Kutch regions have been experiencing fluctuating temperatures. On Thursday, Rajkot city recorded maximum temperature of 36 degrees celsius and minimum of 20 degrees.

RAJKOT: Over the past week, Saurashtra and Kutch regions have been experiencing fluctuating temperatures. On Thursday, Rajkot city recorded maximum temperature of 36 degrees celsius and minimum of 20 degrees. In Amreli, the maximum was 36 degrees and minimum was 18 degrees. Weather officials say that night temperatures rose in parts of coastal Saurashtra and changed little over the rest of the region.
According to officials of India Metrological Department (IMD), day temperatures rose in parts of south Gujarat region, fell in parts of Kutch and changed little over rest of the region.
They were below normal in parts of Saurashtra too. The highest temperature in the region recorded at a number of places was 36 degrees. The minimum was 17 degrees, recorded at Naliya.
In the past week, the region witnessed severe heat wave conditions which prevailed in isolated parts of the state on March 18. Heat wave conditions prevailed in parts of Gujarat on March 17, 18 and in isolated pockets of coastal Saurashtra on March 19. Also, the hot conditions during the day prevailed in isolated pockets of coastal Kutch on March 19. The highest maximum temperature in the region was 42 degrees celsius, recorded at Bhuj on March 17 and the lowest minimum in the region was 14 degrees, at Naliya on March 20.
