Welcome to the /r/ExNoContact IRC chatroom(s)!

There are two rooms you should be familiar with: #exnocontactsocial, and #exnocontactsupport. If you’re seeking company from our amazing community, check out social! Otherwise, the support channel is available if you’re looking for more 1-on-1 help.

Regardless of what you’re looking for, just keep in mind the following rules:

  1. Keep it civil and respectful at all times; we’re all just looking for a fun place to hang out.
  2. Be nice; you don’t know their story.
  3. Abuse, bigotry, misogyny, misandry, homophobia, and racism will not be tolerated.
  4. If another user is harassing you, please let one of the moderators know. You can do this by private messaging one of the users with @ or % preceding their names. We take all reports of harassment seriously, however, we cannot take action on hearsay unless we witness it first hand. If you are subject to any harassment please document any proof with logs/screenshots and supply these as evidence.
  5. Xs are hugs and Os are kisses. No exceptions.

As for content, anything goes in the social chat for the most part. However, the support chat should be reserved for people wanting to speak on their specific experiences. Please respect that boundary and use common sense on what is and is not appropriate in the moment.

The rules above will be enforced by the moderators (users with @ or % preceding their names) with warnings and kicks; repeat offenders will be banned. The mods aren’t always awake! Privately message one of us if anybody breaks the rules and we will look into it as soon as possible.

Some IRC tips

Register your username! If you plan on coming back (and hopefully you do!), others will not be able to impersonate you by choosing your registered username. Assuming you’re using KiwiIRC, click on the “Snoonet” tab on the top left and type in the command “/msg NickServ REGISTER <password> <email>”.

Next time you log in, make sure you check on the “I have a password” box and enter your password. This way, we’ll know it’s really you!

Pinging users can be really useful, if you want their specific attention in your message. To do so, just type their IRC username in your message and they will automatically get a notification of your specific message.

Gonzobot is our resident helper bot; he can do fun things like preview links for us, search on Google/YouTube/Bing within the chat, or even give us ducks to hunt. A full list can be found here, but useful command commands are:

Command

Description

.yt <search term>

Returns the first YouTube result

.gis <search term>

Returns the first Google Images result

.8ball <question>

Predict your future

.killers

Lists the top scores for duck killers

.friends

Lists the top scores for duck befrienders

The duck hunt is a neat feature of gonzobot that - randomly - “spawns” a duck in the chat for users to either kill or befriend. Whenever gonzobot chimes in with some variation of ・ ゜゜・。。・゜゜\_0< QUACK!, users can type in either .bang or .bef to kill or befriend the duck, respectively. It’s fun when there are lulls in conversation, don’t take it too seriously.
