It’s a competitive world. Everywhere you look you have choices. McDonald’s or Burger King, Home Depot or Lowe’s, Sedan or Coupe – the list goes on and on.
As a business owner, you know your clients are aware of their choices. So, why choose you? It’s the age old question we ask ourselves when writing marketing language, figuring out pricing and working on those hefty business plans.
TAKE A LOOK IN THE MIRROR.
You are your ace. This is the card of cards you pull and no one else can trump it. Why? Competitors aren’t even playing with the same deck.
No one can do what you do better than you, because they are not YOU. You want to grow? Take it to the next level? Figure out what you’re really good at, do it and blab about it. Not in an obnoxious way. Get strategic. Get smart. Get inventive when it comes to the blabbing. And you better have some stuff (work) to back it up at Show & Tell time. If you aren’t at the stage to share a decent portfolio with a potential client, toss some respectable companies some freebies so you can get some buzz and experience.
The greatest Olympians in the world will tell you while they know who their competition is, when it’s go time, they are only concerned with their performance. For example, if they are a runner – they focus on their time. Sure they keep an eye on their rivals in their peripheral vision, but their eyes and body are facing the finish line.
It’s good to know what your competition is doing, but don’t go crazy making comparisons and trying to be like them. Consumers don’t need more of the same. They want something new, different or a better version of what they already love. This is your chance to blow their socks off.
You are a unique individual. Let your talent shine. And bring it!
