NEW YORK, N.Y. – Delaware took a bite out of the Big Apple Sunday afternoon as the No. 8 Blue Hens cruised to the 8-1 victory over Columbia at the Baker Sports Complex.

 

Greta Nauck (Krefeld, Germany/Gymnasium am Moltekplatz) led the way by tallying her second-career game with four goals while breaking the program record in goals in the process. The junior matched Sharon Wilkie's 35-year-old record with her 59th career goal in the 41st minute before topping the mark with number 60 with just seconds remaining on the game clock.

 

The Blue Hens (10-4) also saw goals from freshman Lotte de Koning (Vreeland, The Netherlands/RSG Broklede), junior Michaela Scanlon (Wynnewood, Pa./Merion Mercy) and seniors Kayla Devlin (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and Lauren Crudele (Voorhees, N.J./Bishop Eustace).

 

Senior Taylor Lister (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) continues to rack up the assists and added two for Delaware today while freshman Joosje van Weperen (Naarden, The Netherlands/Gemeentelijk Gymnasium Hilversum) also accumulated two assists.

 

Senior Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) and redshirt sophomore Sydney Rhodes (Middletown, Del./C. Milton Wright (Md.)) split time in the cage as Oltmans tallied one save while Rhodes stopped six Columbia shots.

 

Rebecca Pope recorded the lone goal of the day for the Lions (7-5) while Kate Dempsey registered 13 saves.

 

“Compliments to our team for the way they approached and went about their business versus Columbia. Today's team performance confirms again that when we commit to DEHO and compete for Delaware Pride together we will be a force to be reckoned with in weeks to come. Congrats to the team and Greta for breaking our program's goal record. Greta is an outstanding player whom continues to get better at her game and share her knowledge with her teammates. These qualities will allow her to add many more goals or assists for the Blue Hens moving forward.

 

[On win]: “We didn't execute the game plan or play Delaware Hockey yesterday [in 2-1 loss at No. 21 Saint Joseph's]. We came out strong today and focused on ourselves and playing our game. It is important to be consistent moving forward.”

 

[On breaking goals record]: “I don't care about individual numbers. I'm glad I can help the team with our goals, but this isn't about me, it's about the team. By beating this record, it helps the program and our school continue to get better, but other than that I don't care.”

   ·   Greta Nauck's four goals marked just the eighth time in program history that a Blue Hen has scored at least four goals.

   ·   With her 60 career goals, Greta Nauck enters the Top 10 in the CAA record books and currently sits tied for eighth alongside Drexel's Christina Mastropaolo (2007-10).

   ·   Greta Nauck also sits in second in Delaware history with 305 career shots.

   ·   Lotte de Koning has recorded four game-winning goals in her rookie campaign.

   ·   Delaware has reached double-digit wins in each of the last five seasons.

   ·   The Hens outshot the Lions, 31-13, while the two teams each logged seven penalty corners.
