This circa-1830s Creole cottage looks unassuming from the outside. But like so many French Quarter mansions, the $1,595,000 home’s simple, shuttered exterior conceals a lavish, expansive interior. Illuminated by a crystal chandelier and floor-to-ceiling windows, the double parlor opens to a grand staircase and slate foyer.

Original mantels and crystal empire chandeliers also make appearances in the dining area/kitchen, which features marble counters and stainless-steel appliances.

At 2,700 square feet, the home has three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. The master bath features a glass enclosure shower and exposed brick walls, along with the pine floors that are present throughout the home.

A brick courtyard and saltwater pool separate the main house from a carriage house, which has a bedroom and bathroom of its own. We’re also fans of the exposed ceiling beams.

But let’s take a closer look at that courtyard!

As you can see, this isn’t so much a cottage as it is a lavish compound. The home has been on the market for about a year, and in that time, the price has dropped from $1,910,000 to $1,595,000—an ample enough cut that one could buy another house with the savings.
