RAJKOT: The state meteorological department on Monday attributed unseasonal rains that lashed coastal towns of Junagadh, Amreli and Bhavnagar districts on Sunday to Cb cloud formation phenomenon. "Cb cloud or cumulonimbus cloud is a phenomenon in which columns of dense clouds develop vertically. This leads to thunder storms and torrential rains," explained an official from the meteorological department here.
Besides the rains, the Cb cloud phenomenon also created a winter-like situation in Upleta taluka of Rajkot on Monday where Kolaki village experienced early morning showers with dew.

The heat wave condition was briefly replaced by a pleasant weather brought about by rains in the region. Subsequently, the temperature returned to hover at about 42 degrees celsius on Monday, with 41.7 degrees celsius being recorded in Rajkot.
The temperature recorded in Surendranagar was 41.3 degrees celsius. The meteorological department officials expect it to rise at least 2 degrees in the next three days. Temperatures usually soar to 43 degrees in Surendranagar district in the months of May and June. In Porbandar, the heat was moderate at 33.4 degrees.
Meanwhile, parts of Saurashtra could experience this weather pattern for another 48 hours, meteorological department sources said. This has the farmers worried because garlic, onion and sesame crops are almost ready and the unseasonal rains can damage them.
