Strong trading on the back of ‘transformational year’ for Conviviality

Conviviality, the parent company of Bargain Booze and Wine Rack, has reported strong trading in the year to 1 May, in what it described as a ‘transformational year’ with the £200m purchase of Matthew Clark in October and newly announced acquisition of wine trader Bibendum PLB Group.

Conviviality said sales increased by 137% to approximately £864m, with EBITDA expected to be marginally ahead of market expectations, while sales at Matthew Clark since the acquisition were up 4.9% on the previous corresponding period.

It said Conviviality Retail opened 126 new stores in the period, attracting 38 new franchisees.

Conviviality chief Executive Diana Hunter said: “We have successfully completed a transformational year for the company, its employees, customers and franchisees.

“The acquisitions of Matthew Clark, Peppermint and Bibendum PLB Group enable Conviviality to fulfil its aim to satisfy all consumer drinking occasions, enabling it to have unrivalled insight and expertise as the drinks sector’s leading wholesaler and distributor.”
