In this GLF Live, Landscape News editor Gabrielle Lipton spoke with Lawrence Haddad, executive director of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) about the effects of COVID-19 on the global food supply system, from immediate access to food to potential lasting outcomes for food prices and global nutrition.

Dr. Lawrence Haddad has served as executive director of GAIN since October 2016. Prior, he was the founding co-chair and lead author of the Global Nutrition Report and director of the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), the world’s leading development studies institute. Haddad has also held positions as director of the food consumption and nutrition division at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), U.K. representative on the steering committee of the high-level panel of experts of the U.N. Committee on World Food Security, and president of the Development Studies Association of the U.K. and Ireland. An economist, Lawrence holds a PhD in food research at Stanford University. In June 2018, Haddad was awarded World Food Prize from the World Food Prize Foundation along with David Nabarro, former Special Adviser to the U.N. Secretary General.
