Bobby
Stoner
Outside of Grand Mix
Master Kurt "K.O.T.O." Curtis, Bobby Stoner was one
of Tampa Bay's earliest pioneering club DJ's. Stoner launched
his career as a Disc Jockey while attending college at USF in
1972. While an On-Air personality for campus radio station WUSF-FM
he created the name and format for a show called "The Underground
Railroad". Also during this time period he worked as a Club
DJ at various venues. Upon graduating in 1973 with a BA in Speech
Communication/Broadcasting, Stoner moved onto longtime established
Black radio station WTMP where he was a mid-day Air Personality
from 1976-78.
In 1976 he launched
his own special events company providing music programs and
audio systems for fashion show events/promotions. In 1992 Stoner
landed the prestigious position as a Billboard reporter. As
one of a select group of Billboard Dance Chart reporters in
the country he had the privilege of programming the latest
Dance music and remixes, often times a month or more before
it's released to the general public. During the mid and late 1990's Stoner continued
to provide music programs and audio systems for a Miami production
company in South Florida who did lighting and stage sets for designer
fashion shows. Over the years Stoner rose to the ranks of Grand
Mix Master with his flawless mixing and programming skills. Since
1972 he has spun at such clubs as The Carousel, PAC (Performing
Arts Center), Old Plantation, Renes, Howard Avenue Station and
Metropolis.
Bobby Stoner has become the 4th inductee
into the Tampa Bay area Grand Mix Masters Hall Of Fame by
staying loyal to his profession. In true form and like other
Grand Mix Masters he became a huge success due to the fact
he truly enjoys his profession. |
