'Good Eat$ Downtown' Campaign Begins, Aimed At Bringing Business Back To Downtown Restaurants

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There is a new push starting Tuesday to bring people back downtown to eat, with dozens of restaurants offering a new dining deal.

The program is called Good Eat$ Downtown and applies to dine-in, take-out and delivery and was all made possible by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.

Starting Tuesday, you'll get a 25 percent discount when you buy food and drinks at participating restaurants on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through the month.

Joel Gilman is the general manager of Eadie's Market and Catering.

"It's definitely going to help. I can already see on the first day 20 orders came in right off the bat," said Gilman.

Gilman's store is set up on the first floor of the Bank of New York Mellon building downtown. He said they will take all the business they can get.

"Everyone in the building for the most part at BNY Mellon, they're gone until September so a promotion will help people all around," said Gilman.

Keep in mind though, the program is only available while funding lasts. The Richard King Mellon Foundation is providing funding for the campaign, so it will be covering the difference of the discount to help out the restaurants involved.

Steve Hutchison said the program definitely makes going out to eat more enticing.

"I'm kind of tired of being at home so if I can save a little money and get out, I'm all for it," said Hutchison.

The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership launched this program as a way to support businesses challenged by COVID-19 and gives customers the opportunity to check out some restaurants while getting a discount at the same time.

Nick Mancini Hartner, the owner of Mancini's Bread, said it's important to help out these businesses any way you can since they've been suffering throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. He said thankfully though, things are on the upswing.

"We are seeing on a wholesale side, restaurants ordering more bread and business starting to pick up," said Mancini Hartner.

This is something he hopes will continue to get better with warmer months ahead.

If you participate in this program, you'll the chance to win $100 in restaurant gift cards so you can keep the fun going.
