National elections subject of four presentations

LAS CRUCES — Four presentations concerning "National Elections 2016: What Happened and What Does It Mean" are scheduled in January as part of the Academy for Learning in Retirement 2017 Spring Programs.

The Academy for Learning in Retirement is a program of educational opportunities of a scholarly nature for learners age 50 or older. It is sanctioned by NMSU and operated under the auspices of Community Education at DACC.

Each event will begin with a coffee at 10 a.m. and the program from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the Good Samaritan Auditorium, 3011 Buena Vida Circle. Fees are $4 per day for members, $5 per day for non-members and $5 per year to become a member.

A discussion of the 2016 national election results and its place in the evolution of political parties and national election trends and what this portends for the future will be discussed. Among the events scheduled are:

• Neal Rosendorf will speak on "Foreign Policy on Monday, Jan. 23.

• William Corbett will speak on "An Analysis of National Election Trends and the 2016 Election" on Thursday, Jan. 26.

• Christina A. Medina will speak on "The Media and Public Policy" on Monday, Jan. 30.

• Sabine Hirschaeur will speak on "Women and Politics" on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
