2019 MGA Undergraduate Conference Showcases Students’ Original Research

Students from several fields of study will present original research during the three days of Middle Georgia State University’s (MGA) 2019 Undergraduate Conference.  The conference, part of the University’s Experiential Learning@MGA program, will be held April 18-20, with events on MGA’s Macon and Cochran campuses.

“Performing research is one of the key aspects of a college education – students need the ability to take what’s been learned in the classroom and use that knowledge to explore their interests out in the world at large,” said Dr. Sheree’ Keith, assistant chair of the University’s department of media, culture, and the arts, and one of the conference’s organizers.

In addition to events focusing on original research from MGA undergrads, the conference will feature keynotes from a wide variety of speakers, including poet Shara McCallum, music therapist Robert Wall, business leader Brad Warren, and members of the MGA faculty.  The theme for 2019 conference is “Madness and Gender in Media.”

The conference kicks off on Thursday afternoon, April 18,  in Cochran with an address from MGA associate professor Sabrina Wengier on “Representations of Madness in the Media,” followed by an art show and reception. Events move to Macon on Friday, with a keynote from poet Shara McCallum, followed by a book signing, awards luncheon, and student presentations throughout the rest of the day. Saturday will mark the end of the conference, with remarks from Brian Warren, president of Warren Adhesives, additional student presentations and poster sessions, and closing ceremony.

All events are free and open to the public.  The 2019 Undergraduate Conference and is sponsored by the MGA College of Arts and Sciences, The University System of Georgia STEM Initiative Grant awarded to the Departments of Natural Sciences & Mathematics, the MGA Honor’s Program and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at MGA.
