Connecting Niagara was started in 2011 as a means to help keep the people and businesses of Niagara connected. For five years, Debi Katsmar, President of Prowl Communications and founder of Connecting Niagara, has created news and information articles, shared local news stories, events and offers from the Niagara community via facebook, twitter, linkedin and instagram. After repeated requests for advertising and a larger, more in-depth platform this site was created and launched March 31st, 2016.

Debi Katsmar
is no stranger to the publishing industry. She self-published a Resume Guide, in the early 90s. Was contracted for a major, national family magazine as production manager for 3 years. In 2007, she created Equine Niagara News, a local on-line magazine keeping the equestrians of Niagara informed of all things 'horse' related. She sold the publication in 2012 to The Rider, an equestrian newspaper distributed throughout Ontario. Debi's design and production skills led her to a contract for the creation of a monthly newspaper called Walden Today, in the town of Lively, Ontario for three years as well. Debi also designs crochet patterns in her spare time, with over 50 patterns to her credit. The patterns are sold world-wide through her website www.crochetdodads.com, with the 16 pattern book entitled 'Horse Lovers' Crochet' being the most popular-seller.

As a Niagara ambassador, Debi is very community-minded and believes in connecting people with who and what they are looking for. She was the founder of a small networking group called the Seabreeze Business Network in the early 90s and one of the original members of the Small Business Club of Niagara. She is a member of Niagara Centre Board of Trade & Commerce, Business Builders Niagara Referral Group and Networking Now Niagara.  She runs a weekly networking event called Clients and Cocktails Networking as well.

In 2016, she put together an event called ConnectFest Niagara - offering speakers and networking opportunities in a day-long event geared to educating SMBs on the power and value of networking both face-to-face and on-line by bringing the business community together with networking organizations.
