Timetable shake-up on East Coast train line

Train passengers on the East Coast line are being offered more services.

The train operator has announced a new timetable which it says will provide more than 3m extra seats a year on the route.

Among the changes are more services to London from the north-east of England and Yorkshire and a new daily service between Lincoln and the capital.

East Coast said the timetable, which will run from 22 May, is the biggest change in the route for 20 years.

The changes include an early morning Flying Scotsman route from Edinburgh to London, stopping only at Newcastle.

There will be improvements to services for Northumberland trains, 11 non-stop services a day between York and London, and a northbound direct service from London to Harrogate.

Other changes are a train every 30 minutes between Leeds and King's Cross and improvements to the morning services between Newark and the capital.
