“Mayhem, death, love…. Oliver and Felicity breaking up and getting back together.” That is what David Ramsey says viewers can expect from Season 5 of Arrow. And though his tongue was planted firmly in cheek with that last part, the status of “Olicity” is TBD — maddeningly so, in the view of the couple’s fans.
Appearing Sunday at the Heroes & Villains FanFest at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, N.J., Arrow star Stephen Amell said, “I was chatting with a couple of fans earlier and they were saying there hasn’t been a lot of positivity and reassuring notions when it comes to Oliver and Felicity’s relationship. I think that it’s important to remember that relationships on the show don’t have to be only defined by romance. Oliver and Felicity could have a wonderful, fulfilling, dynamic relationship and not be together, right?”
Met with a swell of boos, Amell noted with a chuckle, “That wasn’t a question, OK. That’s how the world works! So we will see where they are this year.” Having ended their (brief) engagement and endured some friction during Season 4, only to wind up working together again on Team Arrow (as friends), “I hope that they’re both in a happy positive place,” Amell said. “Whether that means they’re together or not remains to be seen.”
Addressing Season 5 as a whole, Amell said this weekend that “the villain that we are introducing is a direct result of things that Oliver has done in Star City [and] calls back to a lot of things that happened in the first season of the show.” In doing so, “It really grounds the show and really focuses on its core value, which is the battle to save Star City” — an appreciably quaint notion, Amell acknowledged, given the multiple Earths and time travel taking place on Arrow‘s sister series. “The first two episodes [of Season 5] refocuses us on what the core mission of the show should be, and that to me is very exciting,” he effused. “Plus? Russia,” as in the setting of the next cycle of flashbacks.
Other topics targeted by the Arrow cast during the Heroes & Villains FanFest:
* Ramsey teased two changes within Diggle’s world. For one, his Spartan mask is getting a much-needed, “Cisco-created” upgrade — something the actor greatly welcomes, having seen and heard all the Magneto and peripheral vision jokes. “Also, you will see a new Baby Sarah,” as a third child actress takes over the role.
* Surveying Thea’s future, Willa Holland — while seated next to Arrow alum-turned-Chicago Med doc Colin Donnell — ventured that during her “pseudo-break from Team Arrow, she probably … went on a little vacation, to maybe Chicago, and met some guy in the hospital that looked eerily like her brother!” Turning semi-serious, Holland said, “I hope that Thea in Season 5 is going to be focusing a lot more on herself… and learning a little bit more about what’s going on inside of her now that she has lost the bloodlust. She needs to take some yoga classes and meditate real hard, maybe smudge [with sage] the apartment she lives in.”
* Paul Blackthorne said that whereas Laurel was Quentin’s “rock” when Sara (first) died, Donna (played by Charlotte Ross) has filled that role in the wake of Laurel’s own tragic death. Still, “Life without Laurel is unimaginable for him,” he shared. “So of course he’d bring her back if he could” — be it via Constantine, Lazarus Pit or whatever. (Speaking of the good detective, Amell warned the crowd, “Lance does not get reinstated,” adding: “I’m sorry.”)
* Asked to name a favorite stunt that they themselves were involved in, Charlotte Ross offered, “Running from the bees in my Louboutins!” (when Brie Larvan targeted Felicity, Donna and others), while Katrina Law asked with a wink, “Does making out with Caity Lotz count…?”
* Anticipating the four-way crossover set for December and involving The Flash, Legends and Supergirl, Ramsey said, “I wanna see Diggle’s expression when he sees Supergirl flying across the horizon. I want to know what that is.” After all, since the Fastest Man Alive to this day still fills Dig with awe, Ramsey reckons, “He’s going to pee on himself right there” upon spying the Girl of Steel.

What amell is saying Olicity fans that its dead, they are going to be just friends and move on with their lives. He said it in the kindest way he possible can that Arrow saw the backlash (yo reddit ) and fixed it.
Dude…The bird is gone. The hero always has the lady love. There is also always a lady love on CW. So, OF COURSE, they will ultimately be together. Just not so soon, because the show will go on for a couple more years and not many superheroes are married ;) If you need more proof as to who the writers and EPs listen to… Was Felicity the one who died or was it the comic loyalty Black Canary?? Nobody takes the reddit people seriously anymore except, of course, people from reddit. This is from the ”they will never kill the BC” text book. Myb u’d see the bigger picture if you looked at information and opinions OUTSIDE of reddit and didn’t assume that was the majority. Just a suggestion. :)
It would be really crappy if they got back together. He eventually gets a divorce from Black Canary anyway so that isnt the “end game” for GA, Huntress should be if there was a choice, like if they sat down and really decided. Plus they wanted her back for season 4 but she was busy.
yo, /r/arrow has been such a nest of hatred that DC dissociated itself from it months ago, way before the “fans” there threw a tiny tantrum and changed it to a daredevil forum – while still spewing hatred towards a show they no longer claimed to watch. Doubt reddit has any voice.
DC has nothing to do with /r/arrow. Where do you people get this nonsense?
How did you miss it? The DC reddit made a big post saying that it had taken down all links with the Arrow sub-reddit and would no longer be in anyway connected with it, due to its ‘toxic’ nature. The Arrow redit trolls tried to pretend they were some sort of victims of a tumblr feud (while hilariously Tumblr Arrow fans had no idea what they were talking about) and straight up lied about what went on in the Arrow sub-reddit, but screen shots of them trying to hide their hate, of threats of sexual violence towards other users, and other really nasty stuff kept popping up. So yeah, DC heard all those rants and their reaction was to officially cut ties with that part of the fandom. I think it says a lot about the power those fans mistakenly think that they have.
Dude, it’s not dead at all. What I got from that is they’re clearly not together at the start of this season (and probably will date other people for a while) but I bet they get back together by the season’s end.
–
Also backlash? And using reddit as a reputable and decent source tells me everything. That place is vile and toxic and DC Comics disassociated itself with it too.
When did DC Comics disassociate itself with an entire website?
They disassociated from the Arrow boards. Sorry, I wasn’t clear!
Do you have a source for this? I’m fairly active in the comic book community and have never heard such a thing.
I don’t have a source, sorry. I think if you go to the DC comics subreddit or the Arrow one, there’s an explanation there. Hope that helps.
the dc comics subsection disowned the arrow subsection
“the vitriolic commentary and arguments directly conflicts with our mission as a friendly and open space to discuss DC entertainment properties. As a result, we will not be affiliated with /r/arrow, and we will welcome anyone who wishes to discuss Arrow without the viciousness that has permitted that sub. We have asked that /r/arrow remove us from their affiliated links, and they have. We have done the same”
The DC Comics sub Reddit is not owned or run by DC Comics.
This is a common misunderstanding. The DCComics reddit forum disassociated itself from the Arrow forum back in March because of the hate there. This caused a lot of people to believe that DC Comics itself disassociated itself, because of a mistaken belief that the DC Comics reddit forum was officially run by DC Comics.
As a regular contributor to said sub-Reddit, i’m sure the mods on there would lap up the idea that they worked for DC haha
They put a added note on the post where they announced they were no longer going to be affiliated with /r/arrow.
.
Edit: March 13, 2016. It’s come to my attention that people think this was pressure from DC Comics itself. That is not the case. We do not have regular contact with any media people from DC Comics. In fact, we don’t have any outside of the coordination of certain writers’ AMA posts. This was an in house decision that, frankly, would have come sooner if it was on our radar sooner. I don’t frequent /r/arrow. I’ve only been there for the crossovers. I have, however, spent enough time there recently to convince me that our decision was right, and the only thing that we would have done differently is announce it sooner.
Interesting, thank you.
Interesting. I misunderstood too so thanks for this. I appreciate whoever is in charge for disowning the Arrow subreddit though. The vile hate and misogyny and actual threatening behaviour there was despicable.
Lol, yeah they saw the reddit trolls and what happened exactly? Oh that’s right. The Arrow subreddit was swiftly disconnected from the DC Comics one for being ‘Toxic’. I mean you have the source saying they want nothing to do with to Toxic Arrow reddit users, its a pretty good indication of exactly what they thought of it.
diggle reaction to supergirl is gonna be fun cant wait to see it and i cannot wait for flashpoint and if it somehow affects arrow or not but what i been hearing it only affects the flash series and if supergirl is gonna be set in the Arrowverse after the crossover
I understand what Stephen means when he says people can have a fulfilling and dynamic relationship and not be together. And Oliver and Felicity did. For 2 seasons. And then some. And I understand this is CW and it’s too early for a wedding (if ever), but at this point it just seems illogical for them to be cool with just being friends when there is clearly deep romantic love involved. It would also be stupid for Felicity to not let go of her slightly over-dramatic reaction to the Infamous Lie of 2015. And it is frustrating for a viewer, really, because a slow build is exciting and sexy. But lame backtracking and stalling a natural progression without a legitimate reason is annoying. If there was a more reasonable cause for them not being together… But this just made Oliver look like the lying ass from S1, but also made Felicity self-centered and insensitive. What I would like the EPs and writers to realize is that NOBODY wins from this. The Olicity haters dislike the drama and angst WAY more then an occasional kiss between them. And the Olicity fans are so not amused by the cheap moves the writers are doing lately regarding this couple.
Yes to this entire comment! I never thought the Olicity lovers and anti-Olicity people would ever agree on anything, but they’ve come together in their hatred of this dumb storyline. It’s too bad – I was looking forward to how it would progress Oliver’s character when I first heard the secret baby was coming back, but they didn’t even allow him a chance to explore fatherhood. It was just a cheap and contrived way to break up this couple because it’s too early for the endgame romance.
I have no doubt they’ll reunite, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to another long season of back and forth after the writers destroyed my faith in them with the baby mama nonsense. Just put them together already and have the drama come from the villains.
Cheers! Agreed. Too much drama. I want the characters to continue to grow. They should get back together, but it really doesn’t need to be angst-ridden. It should be adult and logical. They should focus on their next mission with Oliver as mayor as a team. I think if they are friends and such, that’s fine, too. But throwing in a bunch of dating and angsting and such is taking away from the show and dragging things out. Olicity fans like the pair together because of their chemistry and because of the way they fit together, not because of weepy tears and angsty-drama.
Absolutely concur with this. I love Olicity and thought they were fantastic together in season 4a but then Oliver lied and we all knew the fallout would happen and the drama was just terrible. It wasn’t Olicity, it was the drama. Remove the angsty crap and they’re great. Let’s get back to that.
They will probably get back together around mid season.
Awesome. Well said.
Yes yes yes, high five!
I am guessing they were not allowed to say how the Arrow will be changed or not changed by Barry’s actions on The Flash.
Flashpoint is a Flash storyline. For it to affect Arrow, they would have to address it in their premiere, which coincidently airs one day after the flash’s premiere. Unless there’s a crossover in arrow’s premiere that would mean bringing up time travel in a season that claims to be more grounded and more in par with arrow’s roots, my guess is that something happens by the end of the flash’s premiere and that something means arrow won’t be affected at all.
Yes to this.
Amell told fans at the exact same place TVLine are reporting from that Flashpoint would affect Arrow in a major way.
Other fans also reported that he said “no” after saying “sure” to the flashpoint question. Flashpoint is not doable on arrow for many reasons, as much as some people would love for them to “fix” what you consider mistakes. Flashpoint means Oliver is dead since Barry wasn’t in starling to save him because his mother never died. The point of flashpoint, if you read the comics, is to make Barry realize that the alternative is worse than the first reality.
The question was with regards to the aftermath of Flashpoint affecting Arrow, not the actual event creating an on-going shift in Arrow whilst Flashpoint was on-going. In the case of the comic books, the aftermath had quite a significant impact on every hero, Green Arrow included.
Point still stands. The plot driving Arrow’s premiere cannot be a result of another show’s finale. Shared universe doesn’t mean shared audience unless there’s a crossover involved.
Amell has denied that story on Facebook. Referring to the ComicBookMovie.com artlcle, he said “Actually I sarcastically said ‘sure’… And then I seriously said, ‘I have no idea whatsoever’… but let’s go with confirm, I guess.“
While he sure has mastered the arts of trolling over the years, 1) it’s too early to talk about a reunion. I would hope that they’re not together in the first two episodes after everything that went down. The news haven’t been positive but 2) he would never consciously give away big spoilers. That’s SDCC material.
So sick and tired of Felicity! Laurel should not have died, she should!
I’m sorry, did your misogyny slap you so hard that you now think two female characters are interchangeable because they’ve been love interests to the same man? So sick and tired of this trend.
My point is, Laurel was a great character who should not have died. Just like Diggle’s brother, a male, what a great character who should have lived. Felicity, on the other hand, is a grating, annoying character who should have never been on the show and should have died instead to make the show better.
Sure, sure. Diggle’s brother, a traitor who threatened his own family is a better character than Felicity who became a big part of the show because your opinion is not shared by the majority, the majority including the writers/producers/etc. I’m so happy that you find her grating cause you’re still talking about her. Problem with Laurel is that, before her death, the last time people were talking about her was season 2. That’s the only reason why she’s gone. Enjoy the show! or don’t.
Black Canary and Green Arrow are legacy characters…Felicity…useless, forgettable and annoying. His bow and arrow has better character development than Felicity. At least the bow and arrow serve a purpose.
@A.D, how does Felicity not serve a purpose? She’s been on the team, helping save lives, helping save the city since season 1. You might not like her but to say she’s useless is ignoring 4 seasons of her actually be USEFUL.
Riiiiiight you mean the bow that Felicity got him. You don’t seem to grasp that the show and the comics are two different entities. Maybe you’re talking about Firestorm’s stepmother when you’re talking about Felicity.
Your have to stepay out of the box. This is not the comics, if they were going according to the book, you would already know the ending. Television has a way of throwing a twist.
Misogyny because that person preferred Felicity to die over Laurel? Maybe you should stop labeling people with different opinions than yourself. I dislike Felicity and she’s portrayed as the stereotypical nerd girl that somehow can wear on makeup and do her hair to look decent *shocker* then randomly have hacking power-ups because she’s a side character that is overshadowed by actual strong female characters. On top of being able to change looks with makeup, she ends up getting a ridiculous background with a different look in it to show that nerd girls don’t always look nerdy because of their cosmetics. Felicity is a loser and she’s a character that belongs to a Nickelodeon kid show. Her character in Arrow just makes the show look ridiculous, which is probably why ratings are dropping and now they have Curtis which is basically Felicity 2.0 because he pretty much acts just like her so he’s probably going to fall for Oliver too and end up being the gay Black Canary. Then when people criticize Curtis or want him dead in the show there will be people like you calling them a gay basher.
Oh wait, you could be a troll since stating an opinion about wanting someone else to die that IS supposed to be a side character is cause to label them for misogyny so your opinion doesn’t matter!
Arrow is one of only three returning shows that didn’t have their ratings drop in the last season.
I hope they put her on a kids show as well. A tech expert who graduated from MIT with a double masters at 21 is a good role model for girls and a reality check for boys that they’re not the only ones who can do computing and gaming..
Laurel was pathetic. He never loved her, he was messing with Sara all along. Laurel had no storyline but to follow Oliver around.
Excited to see Oliver as mayor. Really hope Arrow returns to Oliver, Diggle and Felicity as a team though. Last two seasons the lair was way too crowded. Diggle getting a better looking mask is exciting. Would love to see Thea back as a business manager. She was good at managing Verdant and she is need of a job. As for Oliver and Felicity, I wanna see their relationship build and them getting together onscreen instead of off screen.
I agree that Team Arrow works much better with only three or four of them. When there are more, such as when Sara was there in s2 or Laurel and Thea in s4, the show stumbles and the fight sequences aren’t as good.
Spoilers indicate that there will be at least three and possibly more new vigilantes in Star City next season. I get worried about that.
I xibt5knoe2why Laurel and her sister, Thea fighting. It was too much.
I hope Olicity get back together. Love them together! I’m ok with them being apart for a while though. I don’t even mind them taking the season to rebuild their friendship. I just hope they don’t act like they were never a thing. These two are in love and were about to be married. That doesn’t just go away. As long as they don’t forget that, it’s all good.
–
LOL @ those who think Olicity are dead though. LMAO.
Forgot to add, if Lance doesn’t get reinstated, how on earth are they gonna make him part of the show? Is he gonna be working with Oliver or something? LOL.
Olicity needs to stay dead. It’s ridiculous soap-level rubbish that we don’t need in a superhero show. Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak are interesting enough characters without having to pair them up and shove their relationship down our throats. Who am i kidding though? They’ll be married by the Christmas break and Guggenheim and his Tumblrina crew will be holding hands and skipping on the grave of the Green Arrow legend.
Let me guess, tumblrina is a term straight out of reddit.
I am not aware of the etymology of the term, but thank you for choosing not to discuss the rest of my statement.
Ok, let’s discuss. “shove their relationship down our throats”. Who’s our? Maybe the you part of “our’ should change the channel since nobody is forcing you to watch a television program meant for entertainment.
What other part of your statement was substantial criticism though? “Soap”? Maybe you’ve missed statements from your dctv big bosses who repeatedly said that superheros are soaps for teenage boys. Or maybe you’ve missed season 1 and 2 where the soap level reached its peek with multiple love triangles involving best friends and sisters, illegitimate children and the famous oh-so-many-people-coming-back-from-the-dead trope.
“Our” being the various people across the world who watch the show who are not interested in an Olicity centric love fest as opposed to a show about a guy and his friends trying to save a flawed city. Maybe you missed that when you were too busy concentrating on the love triangles of seasons 1 and 2 when everyone else was engrossed in the battles against Malcolm Merlyn and Slade Wilson.
Me remembering major character storylines from the show doesn’t mean I enjoyed them, it just means that I can look at the show as a whole, because those storylines happened. If you’re so adapt on ignoring them to focus on battles, maybe you could do the same for the current seasons. Or maybe the problem is that Ra’s al ghul and Dhark weren’t as enjoyable to you. Except that I don’t see you complaining about those, you’re complaining about an aspect of the show that has been present since day 1. And at the same time, you’re indirectly shaming people who enjoy the show for different reasons than yours by using ridiculous acronyms and presenting your opinion as shared “across the world”. Bit pretentious don’t you think?
You just need a list of keywords and phrases to know who visits reddit. Here’s a handy guide to help avoid:
-Tumberlina
-Olis**tty
-soap opera
-shove relationship down our throats
-mentions of Guggenheim
-because comics.
This is so on point. My favorite though is the one oldest one (besides ”because comics”, of course) — ”fangirls”. As if being a woman and a fan is somehow worse and makes me less important than being a male fan.
As long as I’m finally getting this “Felicity and friends” show I’ve been promised for so long in every Arrow-related comment, I’ll be a happy camper.
@Iris, lol. I would totally watch Felicity and Friends. Sounds fun!
Let’s play Reddit Troll Bingo! “‘Laurel Was Awesome and Felicity Should Die.'” “‘I got it! I got it! Bingo!'” Now, this guy forgot to mention Laurel and how much better she is than Felicity, how the Black Canary is canonical, blah, blah, blah. There’s never any substance to the arguments, just a laundry list of complaints that never change; just the order in which they’re repeated.
.
As far as season 5 goes, I’m okay with Oliver and Felicity being separated but still friends. Being Mayor may help Oliver jump that hurdle into finally acting like a grownup, Felicity needs to recalibrate and focus on herself– she was worried she’d lost herself in Oliver, so fighting for Palmer Tech will give her something outside of Oliver to focus on (kinda like they had for episodes 1-7 of last season, before the Baby Mama Drama came into play…).
.
I don’t have any worries about the separation being permanent. You’ll have your hiccups where other options are presented (we already have a Coast City reporter who’s interview tactics will likely involve trying to get up close and personal with Oliver’s pants, as well as the new DA getting cosy with Felicity… I’m personally hoping Cody Rhodes AKA Stardust makes a move on her), but nothing too threatening.
.
They’re front-loading by warning fangirls (NOT a pejorative, much as Reddit Trolls use it as such) not to expect any reunion during the first half of the season, but you know something big will close the fall finale… even if they may not be *together* together until the final episodes of the season.
.
You know what I really want? End season 5 with Oliver putting a ring on it, and never go back to the gratuitous, unnecessary and inorganic drama we got this season. Shippers will continue to fill in the blanks of a happy domestic Olicity in season 6, the Reddit Trolls may actually shut up because Oliver and Felicity’s relationship doesn’t need to drive the plot; they’re just a given, not something to be questioned. It will be a romantic version of Oliver and Thea: they may come into conflict, but they never stop loving each other and will always have each other’s backs.
I was super excited about Arrow this time last year, not so much right now. I hate that they broke up Oliver and Felicty with one of the worst garbage fires of a storyline I think I’ve ever watched, then even though Felicity had legit reasons for ditching Oliver the writers couldn’t seem to remember what they were in later episodes and I will never ever accept the notion they shared responsibility in the split. Oliver lied and made crappy decisions, that was why they broke up. Anyway, I used to love a lot of stuff about the show but it feels like everything I enjoyed (great stunts, watching Oliver grow into a real hero, great character moments between OTA, Felicity and Diggle’s friendship) has been dropped in the last two seasons. Oliver and Felicity’s relationship was the only thread left keeping me with the show and since Arrow seems to be allergic to them now (and why is that? I don’t get it, their relationship gave some really nice growth to both characters and I don’t understand the need to run in the other direction. Olicity didn’t ruin the show, the need for the writers to create manufactured and unnecessary drama around them in the back half of season 4 added to an already lackluster end to the season when they could have focused more on other stuff, but I thought the crappy magic DD plot was way worse) I’m having trouble feeling any sense of excitement or interest in the next season. I was really invested in Oliver’s journey from his season 1 vigilante self to the hero he is now, but they really damaged his character last season for me. First with the Baby Mama Drama and then when he ditched a paralyzed Felicity in the hospital because apparently his manpain was more important than her. I thought if the show had Felicity come around to being able to trust him again maybe I could get behind his character again, but if they are resetting that relationship (again, why?) I’m not sure how that will happen.
GirlvsTV – I could not agree more with your post. You nailed everything I feel about the show right now.
“Oliver and Felicity could have a wonderful, fulfilling, dynamic relationship and not be together” – a big yes to this.
Four way crossover – this has awesome mcawesomeface written all over it. :)
They ruined Felicity’s character in season 3 & have not managed to salvage it since then. Her melodramatic tendencies have made her a polarizing character, fans either love her or loath her. For now it’s best that they are apart..the show needs to go back to it’s glory days when olicity angst did not overshadow the whole show.
Although I don’t agree that her character is ”ruined”, because for me it isn’t necessarily love or hate, but I DO agree she suffered in S3/4. For me it wasn’t her being too emotional, though, it was her becoming all mighty and slightly self centered. I still like her though and I like her chemistry with Oliver, so I want them together eventually. Not now though. I agree they should concentrate on other stuff now(rebuilding the team, grounded action, intriguing villains) and then slowly, without much drama, let us fall in love with them like the first time all over again.
Agreed.
Good grief.
And I thought the craziest fandom was Doctor Who (well, Nu Who at least).
So much bickering & hate flying about in here.
Makes me sad to be a fan.
Really hope that the comments about returning to the core of the show are true, as seasons 3/4 were lacklustre at best I felt. Some terrible casting, poor plot ideas and setting up Legends all played a part.
Not to mention that the makers of the show are juggling too much now, meaning all the shows are suffering.
I seriously hope the cw doesnt ruin Supergirl.
felicity and friends suxs it used to be a good show now it suxs
Where can I watch that?
Diggle already saw Vixen flying when she was on Arrow so it shouldnt be that new for him. But if he does so a surprised reaction i hope its not over the top or it will feel like they are just disregarding Vixen and her ablities.
Title character versus a side character? Yeah I expect he’ll by written a lot of reaction.
I feel Stephen Amell is over the Olicity of it all. That’s not what the show is about and I think he really wants the show to get back to what made it great in the first place. Now that’s not to say their relationship is inconsequential, but it should never take precedence. I am cautiously optimistic about season 5.
What made the show great was Oliver alone in the field, occasionally backed up by Diggle, with Felicity in the comms. That shifted when Arrow had to introduce 278627 shows and their fantastical elements. That also shifted when too many characters became vigilantes at the same time because the writers wanted to honor their comic book counterparts, even when it made no sense at all. What drew me to Arrow and what made the show unique was that it was a grounded superhero show focused on a superhero without superpowers but with skills. I never asked for magic or time travel. “Olicity” is part of Oliver’s story. It’s not everything and it shouldn’t be but on the list of things that could be better on arrow, it doesn’t even make the top 5.
I don’t know, I think he’s more over the magic stuff than the relationship stuff. He keeps talking about refocusing the show on street-level fighting instead of world-ending nuclear threats, leaving magic and time travel to The Flash, and not propping up other new shows.
In terms of Olicity, he used to be the most vocal supporter but I wonder if he’s toned it down so dramatically because he knows they’re not going to reunite for a while and doesn’t want everyone to get their hopes up? He even told someone at this weekend’s con that Felicity was getting a new boyfriend (then he later seemed to try to take it back).
Stephen is a supporter of anything that makes the fans passionate, as long as it’s on par with the narrative. Same goes for Emily. He’s still a vocal supporter, he brought a felicity smoak funko on stage with him as well as a hockey stick during his panel… But it also doesn’t help that recently, during an interview with Larry King, the dumb part of the comics fandom twisted his words for their own agenda when he made a comment about vitriolic attitude towards his colleagues and friends. If you’ve engaged in any of that, you’re not a real fan. They assumed like the big boys they are, without even watching the video, that he was defending the olicity fandom. Indirectly, they’ve admitted they have a reason to feel targeted. The biggest problem isn’t Amell nor the show, it’s this fanbase’s negativity.
I don’t think he’s over Olicity at all. He loves the pair of them together. Just watch interviews and you can tell its genuine. However, seeing as a vocal minority keep attacking him whenever Olicity is mentioned, maybe he’s toning it down to prevent being attacked. The haters in this fandom are disgusting. I stopped visiting the Facebook page because I was attacked and sent threats for liking Felicity and Olicity. I assume Stephen gets it worse.
–
Not to mention that he often hypes or downplays what’s going on in the show. And right now Olicity are not together so he’s sticking with that for now.
Your have to step out of the box. This is not the comics, if they were going according to the book, you would already know the ending. Television has a way of throwing a twist.
How are you so sure it’s a vocal minority? I never actually read comments about this show when I watched it and I finished watching all 4 seasons and TOTALLY DISLIKE Felicity starting on season 3. I don’t think people know what they are talking about by rating the demographics that don’t like Felicity based on online polls or comments because a lot of people don’t waste their times on this stuff and dislike Felicity.
To me, the show RUINED Laurel’s character. They started off the show with a narrative that Oliver got through the island because of his feelings for Laurel and they never got them back together. They always kept Oliver and Laurel apart and had Laurel get with Tommy with constant interference by Oliver when she was with him. Then when Laurel was finally single they let Tommy’s death be a wedge for Oliver and Laurel so they never got back together after that and the writers always have Oliver saying he wants to protect Laurel by not being with her. For some reason, this logic doesn’t apply to Felicity who he works with because apparently for some reason this girl is immune to being in danger for some odd reason. It’s like the people at CW don’t want the real couples to actually be together and it reminds me of that show Passions I used to watch which eventually went off air because of the nonsense of having the real couples be with different people and constantly keeping secrets.
The narrative of the show did start out that Oliver got through the island by hanging on to Laurel’s picture but by the end of season 1, it was that Oliver had a dream of who Laurel is that wasn’t true to their relationship and the reality was that their relationship was toxic. He repeatedly cheated on her in the past and she kept going back to him and they had zero communication, and in the present, he kept lying to her and hiding secrets from her and she kept lying to him and putting him down even into season 4.

It was to and about Felicity that Oliver said the line “Because of the life I lead, I can’t be with someone I really care about”, not Laurel. He treated Laurel like he treated Thea, someone who needed to be protected so he couldn’t tell her his secrets.

Felicity had a head injury and twice kidnapped in season 2 and was shot and paralyzed in season 4 so I don’t understand why you say that she’s immune to being in danger.
I’m not sure Diggle can be awestruck by anything anymore. The man has seen King Shark for gods sake!
They should use the Flashpoint-paradox to bring back Laurel(just a small tweak could bring her back, and there’s bound to be small-tweaks after Flashpoint), and end Olicity, it’s too wishy-washy it retards Felicity’s potential(she became ‘filler’ when Olicity got shipped), and it made Ollie weak(remember season 1, he took out hordes, now he struggles with 2 bad guys).
Also, I hope they stick more to conspiracy type villains, the formula of a big-bad, who kicks Ollie around for a season, only to be beaten in a dramatic boss-battle, is stale, the Undertaking was good, an Owls Court type deal would be good, things like that.
I’m not finding the link between Oliver being in a relationship and him needing a full team to take out bad guys because there is none. He struggles because that makes the other vigilantes in his team relevant. If there’s a link at all, him getting laid regularly should help his focus.
Also, Laurel isn’t coming back, get that. They’ve destroyed the lazarus pit just to not bring her back. Black Canary was outed once Laurel died and she is getting a statue because there will never be another Black Canary on Arrow.
I thought the reason Oliver became weaker in seasons 3 and 4 was to make Laurel/Black Canary his equal, as she demanded outside Thea’s hospital room. There was no way Laurel with her minimal training was anywhere near Oliver’s level of fighting and so he had to be cut down.
Since Felicity got together with Oliver, she became CEO of Palmer Tech, doing a better job of it than Oliver had and with Curtis’ help, saving the company through two great inventions. I hope they continue that storyline next season, either getting her back PT or starting her own tech company.
Really! I guess I stopped watching in time.
Really! Seems like overkill to me
Let’s hope they’ve seen the error of their ways and killed off Olicity for good, they gave it a try and it failed. They always worked better as friends and not as lovers. Let’s just hope this is true and not just fan teasing to get people to rewatch the show again.
Oh Apple…
Never change. Your irrational hatred is so reliable you could set your clock to it.
”I think that it’s important to remember that relationships on the show don’t have to be only defined by romance”. If the writers intend certain relationships to not be ‘defined by romance’ they should keep them platonic no?. Why show Oliver and Felicity in love and about to be married if the intention was to split them up and have them acting worse than strangers in the next breath? They made Olicity a stable, mature relationship in the first half of season 4 only to break them up using the most contrived and forced drama I’ve ever seen. They then proceeded to ignore them altogether. I think the reason there is no Olicity news is because the writers are doing the ‘just friends’ thing for now, pretending they were never in love. I don’t think they realize that this is just upsetting the fans. I do think Olicity will get back together eventually but if it happens too long down the line, will anyone even care?.
Since the number 1 complain about Arrow is Olicity it’s safe to say non-shipping aka Arrow viewers don’t care about this show-sucking ship now, never mind later.
Didnt like Olicity and hope the ship stays gone for awhile. Felicity was such a great character the first two season and thats the Felicity i want to see come back.
