Zephyr Teachout is an Associate Professor of Law at Fordham University. Never having previously run for office, in 2014 she ran for the Democratic Party nomination for Governor of New York, losing to incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo. She ran on a progressive platform that contrasted the governor’s allegiance to powerful interests with the idea that government should work for the majority of the people. Despite a campaign treasury that was small for New York, she drew far more votes than the pundits predicted. She is the author of Corruption In America: From Ben Franklin's Snuff Box To Citizen's United. In July 2015 she was named CEO and Board chair of Mayday PAC, an anti-corruption nonprofit organization.
