The bond between animas and humans is well documented, however there's an inexplicable bound between humans and dogs!
Judy devoted her life to these men; saving, not one or two, but many men during that awful conflict! She floated from owner to owner until she finally found her human!
This is an unforgettable story for the ages, yet truth told, though many have forgotten, it shouldn't have been.
I hope many, many of the readers out there will have the unique encounter with history and the part our animals played in it! From pigeons to pups we've relied on animals and they have not let us down!
I would have preferred more development of the characters and their interaction with the heroine.
One can hardly imagine the endurance and strength -- mental and physical -- it might take to pull through as many life-altering experiences as Judy did, more than most humans could even conceive of.
Judy more than deserved her beautiful tombstone and epitaph; knowing this ending should not deter someone from reading her story.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves survival stories, which are heartfelt and beautifully told.
Judy wasn't trained for her role. She was simply a dog...smart, loyal, with a beautiful soul.
Enjoy your reading! :)
With the former-prisoner who adopted her after the armistice. Though the story ends on a sad note with Judy's death, she has a long, proud, useful and it seems, very happy life. Charming but not mushy in writing style. Highly recommended for adults.

Ms. George works for the PDSA, is an expert in the history of animals in wartime, and has has a writing style that takes you right in amongst the action, hardship and tragedy experienced by these unsung but courageous creatures and the soldiers, sailors and airmen whose lives have been irrevocably touched (and often saved) by them. If you came across the remarkable story of Judy in a novel, you might describe the plot as far-fetched and unbelievable yet, incredibly, this is actually a true story, verified by the people who were there at the time and backed up by official documents.
The standard of spelling, grammar and formatting is top-notch which, in my experience, is unusual for a Kindle book.
If you're a dog-lover, and if you'd like to take a fascinating, heart-warming (and sometime heart-wrenching), break from your usual genre of reading material, I recommend that you get this book.
