Report: Chiarelli asks MacTavish to stay with Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have decided to make some changes recently, but that doesn't mean they're completely cleaning house.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports the team's newly appointed president of hockey operations and general manager Peter Chiarelli has asked former GM Craig MacTavish to stay with the franchise, although in what capacity hasn't been determined.

Chiarelli's hiring was announced Friday more than a week after he lost his position with the Boston Bruins, which meant Kevin Lowe's days as president and MacTavish's time as GM were up.

Lowe will move from hockey operations to the business side of Oilers Entertainment Group, while MacTavish waits to hear what his future with the Oilers will hold.

Prior to hiring Chiarelli, the Oilers also named Bob Nicholson as new CEO.
