Randy Carlyle might be going back to California.

The San Jose Sharks have been granted permission by the Toronto Maple Leafs to interview Carlyle for their vacant head-coaching position, as first reported by Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Carlyle is a veteran of 704 regular-season games as an NHL head coach, posting a career record of 364-260-80. His most successful years came while standing behind the Anaheim Ducks' bench, which included a Stanley Cup win in 2007.

According to the oddsmakers at Bodog, however, he's a long shot to land the job.

Candidate Odds
Dan Bylsma 2/1
Jeff Blashill 5/2
Marc Crawford 9/2
Kevin Dineen 9/2
Mike Babcock 7/1
Larry Robinson 8/1
Randy Carlyle 19/2
Paul MacLean 19/2

Carlyle was relieved of his duties by the Maple Leafs midway through the 2014-15 season, but is still under contract with the club.
