Washington and its NATO allies lied about Iraq; they lied about Libya; they are lying about Ukraine; and they are lying about Syria.
There were no Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq, but the invasion occurred anyways, thanks to a multitude of lies.
Charles "Chuck" Lewis, founder of the "Center For Public Inquiry" explains in a project appropriately named "False Pretenses" that "President George W. Bush and seven of his administration's top officials made at least 935 false statements about the national security threat posed by Iraq.
A de-classified CIA document also confirms that there was no sound justification for going to war.
Stealing petroleum resources was not a stated goal of the invasion.
False pretenses also facilitated the invasion of Libya. Associate university professor and author Maximillian C. Forte, in "The Top Ten Myths In The War Against Libya" lists a number of evidence-free accusations promulgated by the "West" as pretexts for invasion:
Gaddafi is committing genocide
Gaddafi is "bombing his own people"
We need to save Benghazi
Gaddafi is using African mercenaries
Gaddafi's forces are engaging in Viagra-fuelled mass rape
We have a "Responsibility To Protect" Libyans
Gaddafi is a demon
