Report Says More States May Copy Arizona Immigration Law -- Should They?

Dec. 30, 2010— -- One of the most controversial stories of 2010 was the passage of Arizona's tough immigration law, and there are some indicators that 2011 could only see an expansion of a contentious debate.
According to a report in USA Today, more states are considering copying Arizona's crackdown on illegal immigration, particularly after Congress failed to act in 2010 with any type of immigration legislation.
USA Today points to a study from the National Immigration Forum, which opposes Arizona's law, suggesting that as many as seven states are "likely" to pass tough immigration legislation.
Supporters of Arizona's law told the paper they expect many state legislators to wait to see how Arizona's law fares in court before pressing ahead with their own versions. The Arizona law could eventually wind up before the Supreme Court.
