  1. I was born in San Diego, California and I share my name with my dad. My grandparents were of English, Scottish and Irish heritage. My parents divorced when I was six years old and I had to be with my maternal grandmother for the next few years. Once my grandmother died after 4 years, I was back with my father. My first job in 1936 was that of a truck driver for an oil company, which was during the time when I was enrolled in the University of Berkley for pre-medicals majoring in English. It was during this time that I had got an opportunity to be with a theatre team and where I was spotted by the University Acting Coach. People have dedicated a tomb for me at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles.
