Professional learning is essential to strengthening educator practice, improving student outcomes, and promoting educator retention.

All educators should have access to exemplary professional learning that helps them address the unprecedented challenges facing teaching and learning.

As required in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), professional learning must:

•          be based on data and evidence;

•          be focused at the school and classroom levels;

•          be ongoing and sustained;

•          include coaching, mentoring, collaboration, professional learning communities, and support for leaders.

 All policy makers must understand and embrace the fundamental power of professional learning as a key lever for school improvement that requires strong and sustained investments from every level of government.
