Houses that have taken the Halloween spirit a little too far

Houses that have gone all out for Halloween

There’s nothing like a festive holiday to bring out some real competition between neighbours.

Check out these seven home-owners who, in the true spirit of Halloween, have gone to elaborate lengths to scare everyone in the neighbourhood.

Monster Garage

More than 25 million people have watched this monster house open and close its garage door jaw. Amanda Destro Pierson, who posted the video on Facebook, says she’s surprised by the millions of views and more than 270,000 shares. Because of all the hype the house has received, Pierson says she wants to sell monster house kits so everyone can scare the wits out of their neighbours.

Dancing House

This house really goes the extra mile by performing a light show for passers by. The house draws big crowds in LA annually, who come to marvel at the complex system of music and 400,000 lights. This year the house is doing a spooky rendition of The Rocky Horror Picture Show hit, Time Warp. Popular songs it has performed in the past include the Ghostbusters theme song, Gangnam Style and House of Pain’s Jump Around.

Simpsons House of Horror

Even if you’re not a fan of the holiday, there’s something really fun about Halloween episodes of your favourite TV shows – and The Simpsons’ House of Horror episodes are a prime example. A house in Montreal has made a life-size ode to The Simpsons Halloween with some of the most grotesque characters, like Walrus Homer, and Mr Burns as a scary overlord.

Spider House

Those with arachnophobia are advised to look away right now! This Brooklyn brownstone is covered in an enormous ‘web’ and a whole colony of giant black spiders. This is truly the stuff of nightmares.

Inflatable monsters
Let’s hope whoever made this display didn’t blow it using their own lungs. This lawn in Canada has a whole army of inflatable monsters and, what looks like, dead corn plants tied along the fence. Spooky.

US election themed house

The US election is getting really scary, making it the perfect subject for a Halloween display. This house in Connecticut has a ‘Mexico-United States border’ wall built around it as a criticism of Donald Trump’s proposed policy. The house also features Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and, of course, a bright orange Trump. Secretary Clinton is riding a donkey, the symbol of the Democrat party.

Vancouver Monster House

This house looks only mildly scary by day but when the lights come on at night, and its smoke machine is switched on, it’s a pretty impressive and creepy sight. The house belongs to Mik Lernout, who admits in his own Instagram post that he might have gone “a little overboard” with the jaws and evil eyes on the outside of the house.
