'If You Build It, We Will Break It:' Trump's border wall inspires The Chamanas' new song

The Chamanas, who are from the El Paso-Juarez region, will perform May 5 at Painted Dunes Desert Golf Course as part of the Women who Rock event.

One of the most controversial political topics — a border wall proposed by President Donald Trump — is the theme of a new song by indie-pop fusion El Paso-Juárez band The Chamanas.

The song, "If You Build It, We Will Break It," features Jim Ward, another El Paso musician known for founding At the Drive-In and Sparta, and Kiko Rodriguez. The song was written by Ward, Rodriguez and the group's Paulina Reza.

Among the lyrics: "If you build it, we will break it/ bricks and mortar won't separate us.

If you build it, we will break it/ tied together through generations."

The song is in line with the group's fusion of traditional folk music with contemporary beats.

You can check out the band when it performs May 5 at Painted Dunes Desert Golf Course as part of the Women who Rock event, which is free.
