WU’S WEDDED BLISS: Despite Instagramming the news of his wedding Saturday to his longtime partner Gustavo Rangel, Jason Wu preferred to keep the details of their celebration private. The designer and Rangel jetted to Tulum, Mexico, for the friends-and-family affair. The pair first met at a friend’s New Year’s Eve party in 2005, and their first date happened months later at “Mary Poppins.” Wu sounded as though he was still airborne, posting, “This weekend I celebrated one of the happiest days of my life. I got married to @tavonyc and I feel like the luckiest person in the world.”
The festivities at the Hotel Esencia included Diane Kruger, Bryanboy and Jennifer Fisher. Wu thanked his “amazing friends” without naming them, but he did single out his parents, “Hank and Jennifer and my brother and sister Kevin and Migumi for being the most loving, supportive and special people in my life. I love you guys endlessly.”
But the tequila and Champagne had stopped flowing by Monday, when Wu and Rangel, who is chief financial officer of the designer’s company, were back at work in their New York office.
Disappointed as Wu’s fans must have been not to have had every last wedding detail to relish or critique, the designer earns major points for keeping the surprise factor under wraps. Then again he does have a track record for vaultlike privacy, having twice designed gowns that First Lady Michelle Obama selected for her husband’s first and second inauguration.
Wedding watchers should have something more substantial to dive into in the months ahead when Lady Gaga ties the knot with Taylor Kinney, who recently made it known that his bride-to-be wants a big-time wedding.
