Whistler Blackcomb Is Having a Record-Breaking Ski Season

New, 1 comment

Winter may only be half way over, but Whistler Blackcomb is enjoying a record-breaking season so far. Pique Magazine is reporting that in its quarterly report on February 10, Whistler Blackcomb Holdings Inc. announced that the company had experienced the highest year-to-date skier visits ever. Whistler counted 1.14 million total visits for the year, the highest year-to-date visits in the company's history and a 21-per-cent increase over the same period last year. From October through December 31, 2015, the ski resort recorded 502,000 total skier visits, up 23.3 percent from the same period last year. The increase in skier visits can be attributed in large part to consistent snowfall and a weak Canadian dollar that's making it more affordable for destination skiers to travel. Whistler Blackcomb also announced that it would invest $8 million in the upcoming year, including upgrades to the Garibaldi Lift Company and Roundhouse Lodge, enhancing the ski and snowboard learning terrain, and the addition of summer hiking trails and the construction of a new glacier-view sightseeing deck.
