Woody Harrelson‘s career is going to pot.
Harrelson, a longtime Hawaii resident and marijuana advocate, applied for a permit to open up his own medical marijuana dispensary in Hawaii.
According to the Associated Press, Harrelson’s company, Simple Organic Living, was among the 66 applicants to Hawaii’s Department of Health to open the state’s first legal medical marijuana dispensaries.
The state posted all the applicants on its website on Friday and is expected to award its dispensary permits in April.
Harrelson isn’t the only entertainer looking to get in on Hawaii’s fledgling pot industry. Dirk Fukushima, producer of the local television show “Hawaii Stars,” is also among the applicants.
Applicants must have $1 million cash to apply and an extra $100,000 for each planned dispensary location. They must also prove that they have been residents of Hawaii for more than five years.
Last year, Hawaii passed a law granting eight licenses for marijuana business owners across the islands.
According to the law, medical marijuana businesses will be allowed to have two production centers and two retail dispensaries, for a total of 16 dispensaries statewide. The first dispensaries are set to open in July.
Hawaii became the first to legalize medical marijuana 16 years ago. Lawmakers tried to introduced a law legalizing recreational pot, but it’s unlikely to pass this year.
