Craig Cash and Phil Mealey, the creators of the critically acclaimed 2003 to 2004 pub-based sitcom Early Doors (pictured), have written a new sitcom together.

Broken Biscuits is described as a "funny, touching and twisted" show that follows five disparate groups of people: friends, partners and parents.

The BBC explains: "There's Milton and Pearl and Brenda and Roger, who take great pride in running their B&B, teenager Raz who dreams of independence from his mum, and her partner, 'Sid the Suitcase'. Lastly, Martin who is looking for love while caring for his disabled brother Tom."

The pilot episode, which has been directed by Craig Cash, will be shown as part of BBC One's forthcoming Comedy Playhouse 2016 strand.

An impressive cast has been assembled for the pilot, with Alun Armstrong, Alison Steadman, Timothy West, Stephanie Cole, Warren Brown and Gemma Whelan on the list.

Executive Producer Kristian Smith says: "Broken Biscuits is a beautifully observed piece from Craig Cash and Phil Mealey; the stellar cast bring to life these wonderfully amusing characters in a clever interweaving narrative."

Broken Biscuits will be one of three pilots screened later this year under the iconic Comedy Playhouse branding. The other two shows lining up alongside it are Hospital People and Stop/Start.
