TalkTalk is preparing for the launch of a mobile phone network after hiring the head of a Dutch telecoms start-up.

The broadband company is understood to have named Jeff Dodds, head of Tele2 in the Netherlands, as its managing director of mobile. He led the launch of Tele2’s 4G network after its Swedish owner acquired the airwaves it needed to run its services, rather than leasing capacity from another operator.

TalkTalk may copy the idea if competition regulators force Three and O2 to sell airwaves as part of the merger of the two companies.
