Job markets change and evolve, and with them the types of jobs that seem to be on the up and up.
Today, LinkedIn—a massive career networking and job search platform—released a roster of occupations it deems the most promising, based on some pretty important factors. LinkedIn sifted through the profiles of its millions of members, taking note of the progression of their job histories and the salaries of various jobs to identify which occupations are blowing up.

According to the methodology, salary held the most weight (30%) in identifying top jobs. Career advancement was also an important factor, and LinkedIn gauged it for each occupation based on the percentage of members employed at the end of 2016 who then started a new position at the same company during 2017. Job availability was factored in, too, based on the number of available positions on its job search platform, as well as the year-over-year growth of openings for said jobs. The number of locations in the country offering the same types of jobs was also taken into account.
The top job for getting ahead was engagement lead, a position that carries a median base salary of $93,000 and has seen 425% year-over-year growth in the number of available jobs on LinkedIn. Right now, according to the numbers, there are more than 1,200 such jobs available. The occupation scored ten out of ten in the career advancement category.
Following engagement lead, the role of software engineering manager also scored big. With a median annual salary of $148,000, it’s a lucrative role. There are more than 1,100 postings for software engineering managers open right now, and that’s 38% more than a year prior. LinkedIn gave the role an eight out of ten in the career advancement category.
In third place on the ranking we find customer success manager (known to some as a customer service manager). The job earns a median $82,300 per year and saw 91% year-over-year growth in job availability. Career advancement? LinkedIn in gave it a ten out of ten.
Skills To Pay The Bills
LinkedIn also did an analysis of the skills most often connected to career advancement. Since the site’s members add various skills to their profiles, LinkedIn scanned the hiring and recruiting that took place between January and September of last year, tracking the skills present on the profiles of members that show they either started new jobs within their company or attracted interest from recruiters and other firms.
