KATU News hosted a town hall conversation on youth mental health on Tuesday, May 22.

It was a packed house, with every student, parent, teacher, and counselor sharing their own thoughts and stories relating to mental illness.

"I was a three-sport athlete. I had great grades, a loving family," said Cody Welty, who's now a college senior.

He's not someone that most people would think struggles with depression or mental illness, but his reality in high school was different.

"It got to the point where I didn't feel like I had any options," said Welty. "I didn't feel like I could talk to anyone and I tried to kill myself."

Welty's story was just one of the many aspects discussed at the town hall. Several other people offered their thoughts and advice as well.

Watch the entire program above, or watch it on Channel 2 on Sunday, June 3.
