You can learn a lot from professional writers talking about their craft.

Over a decade ago when the seeds of inspiration for this blog were germinating in my imagination, one idea which emerged early on was to aggregate interviews with professional writers. Why? Primarily because of this: Who better to learn from than writers discussing their creative process?

Thus every week since I launched Go Into The Story in 2008, I have featured writer interviews. Audio. Video. Written. And over the years, I have collected hundreds. Here are links to all of them:

Conversations With Wilder: A 28 part series featuring interview excerpts from the Billy Wilder-Cameron Crowe conversations.

Rod Serling on Writing: A 16 part series drawing upon a rare set of interviews Serling did with a group of college students.

Go Into The Story Interviews: My in-depth conversations with over 100 writers, filmmakers, and industry insiders.

How They Write A Script: Dozens of interview excerpts from some of the most notable screenwriters in Hollywood from the 1930s to present.

Interviews — Audio: Podcasts and rare recordings.

Interviews — Video: From short snippets drawn from movie press junkets to extensive lectures to sit-down conversations, hundreds of videos of writers discussing the craft and their film or TV projects.

Interviews — Written: If you prefer reading, here are hundreds of interviews with writers and filmmakers.

When I first broke into the business, I read, watched, or listened to every interview I could find with screenwriters and TV writers. Sometimes I took away tiny practical pieces of advice about the craft. Other times, I was simply inspired by their words.

I encourage you to make listening, reading, or watching such interviews a regular part of your learning process.
