Texas A&M sweeps SMU on Senior Day

COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team posted a clean sweep of all 16 events in today's 159.5-114.5 victory over SMU on Senior Day at the Student Recreation Natatorium.  
 
Prior to the dual meet, Texas A&M's six seniors were honored: – Tera Bradham (Round Rock, Texas), Claire Brandt (Dallas, Texas), Katherine Huff (Augusta, Ga.), Colleen Konetzke (San Antonio, Texas), Meredith Oliver (Tyler, Texas) and Victoria Salinas (Brownsville, Texas). Among the seniors taking victories on Senior Day were Konetzke in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:12.26), Brandt in the 200 backstroke (1:58.27) and with the 400 medley relay and Oliver with the 200 freestyle relay.
 
Leading the way for the Aggies with two individual victories against the Mustangs were junior Madison Hudkins, sophomore Beryl Gastaldello and sophomore Jorie Caneta.
 
Hudkins, from Murrieta, Calif., posted a diving sweep for the second straight day with victories in the one-meter dive (318.52) and three-meter dive (career-best 370.20). Hudkins' three-meter score made her the No. 2 performer in the dive in school history.
 
Gastaldello, from Miramas, France, tallied victories in the 100 free (50.00) and the 100 butterfly (53.55) and also swam legs on both winning relays.
 
Caneta, from Bakersfield, Calif., via Arizona State, swept the 100 breaststroke (1:01.71) and the 200 breast (2:15.65).
 
In addition to seniors Konetzke and Brandt, the Aggies received solo victories from junior Sarah Gibson in the 200 free (1:48.88), sophomore Lisa Bratton in the 100 back (55.42), sophomore Esther Gonzalez in the 200 fly (2:03.78), freshman Lexie Lupton in the 50 free (23.37), junior Sycerika McMahon in the 500 free (4:53.43) and sophomore Bethany Galat in the 400 IM (4:13.74).
 
The Aggies opened and closed the meet with relay victories. The foursome of Gastaldello, Caneta, Brandt and Oliver won the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:42.38 to open the meet, and the group of sophomore Kristin Malone, McMahon, Gibson and Gastaldello won the 200 free relay in 1:33.60.
