3D measurement technology company FARO has just launched their latest 3D laser scanner, the ultra-portable Focus3D X 30, which offers accurate, high-speed measurement of complex, short-range architecture, policing or engineering applications.
An undeniable asset to 3D modelers, 3D printing enthusiasts, as well as historians, artists, doctors and even the police, 3D scanning technology allows users to accurately capture real-time data of an object’s size, shape, angles and even texture, whether it be a miniature figurine, a building, or a physical room.
Adding to their growing portfolio of 3D scanning and realization technologies, Florida-based FARO technologies’ Focus3D X 30 Scanner offers a scanning range of up to 30 meters, and is ideal for short-range scanning applications, including but not limited to architectural preservation, as-built documentation, building information modeling (BIM), engineering, facility management and, crime scene investigation and forensics.
Given its short-range capabilities, FARO designed the Focus3D X 30 to be as portable as possible without compromising on its real-time, high-accuracy scanning, reliability, or ease-of-use. As with all FARO 3D laser scanners, the Focus3D X 30 features a Class 1 ‘eye-safe’ laser.

Alongside the short-range Focus3D X 30, the company offers a mid-range option, the Focus3D X 130 (scanning range of 130 meters) and a long-range option, the Focus3D X 330 (scanning range of 330 meters). Meanwhile, their free SCENECT app allows anyone to 3D scan by turning the motion sensor in an Xbox Kinect or an Asus Xtion PRO LIVE into a 3D laser scanner.
In October of this year, the company also introduced its latest Freestyle3D X Handheld 3D laser scanner, which operates with a scanning accuracy of 1mm at a 1m range. From 1 meter to over 300, FARO has your 3D scanning needs covered.
