At-Home Worker Finds New Opportunities with a Freelance job

Call it what you will: fate, kismet, just plain old good luck. Sometimes, when things fall into place and a job seeker finds just the right position for them, it seems as if it was just meant to be. That’s the case with this week’s job success story, who told us her timely job search opened up a world of new opportunities with a freelance job.

Unlike many people who join FlexJobs, Michelle C. told us she wasn’t looking for a flexible job when—guess what—she found one. She was already working from home when she found out about FlexJobs, became a member, and was hired in a freelance, work-from-home job as a contract manager.

Greater Focus Working from Home

A resident of Austin, Texas, Michelle C. told us she had already discovered the joys of working from home when she became a FlexJobs member. “I wasn’t looking for a flexible job, it was looking for me,” Michelle wrote in response to questions from FlexJobs.

“For two months, I had been working from home and discovered how much more work I could get done,” Michelle said. Her conclusion that she could increase productivity by working from home was similar to what many telecommuters have found. “[I] discovered how much more work I could get done because I was able to completely focus on the work.” she told us.

Michelle’s first-hand experience as a telecommuter was a factor when a manager at a job she was leaving suggested she consider joining FlexJobs to find her next position. That turned out to be “great advice,” she wrote.

Michelle said she heeded career advice she had previously been given to act quickly once she found any job openings that appeared to be a good match. “It’s true!,” she wrote of her experience. “I submitted my resume in the first two to four hours of the job posting [and] I was contacted for an interview.”

Job seekers risk being ineffective “spending time reviewing all job boards for postings.” A targeted job search and resume are more likely to yield success, Michelle said. That was the tack she took, and “it worked out perfectly.” Her conclusion about her new work-from-home job? “I love it!,” she said.
