Property’s Photo of the Week: Wood Block Wonder on Reed Street

These wood blocks were recently discovered when the 400 block of Reed St was prepped for repaving. A nice piece of history that will hopefully be preserved somehow. #phillyscape #phillyphotoday

Who knew the first week of October would have such a cool treat in store for us?

In case you missed it, last Thursday saw a neat discovery happen in the Dickinson Narrows (or Dickinson Square West) neighborhood of South Philadelphia: a wooden street was unearthed from beneath the 400 block of Reed Street. Move over Camac!

In a Dickinson Square West Civic Association newsletter sent out shortly after the finding, Philadelphia Streets Commissioner David J. Perri said the paving work taking place when the discovery was made has been put on hold until they decide what to do with the wood blocks, though we know that an estimated 40- or 50-square feet worth will be removed with the intention of seeing if a museum wants to display them.
