Homeless man sentenced to jail for resisting police

LUDINGTON— A 55-year-old homeless man was sentenced Tuesday, Oct. 6, in 51st Circuit Court to serve seven months up front of a one-year discretionary jail sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of resisting and opposing police and fourth-offense habitual offender last August.

Joseph Michael LeClair, 55, whose address in his court file is listed as “homeless,” was arrested Aug. 1 by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office. He received credit for 66 days served in jail.

One count of malicious destruction of property was dismissed in a plea agreement, according to his court file.

LeClair was also ordered by Judge Susan K. Sniegowski to serve two years probation; no alcohol/drugs; must comply with alcohol or drug testing ordered by his probation officer; attend AA as required by probation; mental health treatment; no assaultive behavior; no weapons; and $380.92 restitution.

Sentencing guidelines for his conviction are five to 34 months.
