Palm oil industry 'tough going'

Palm oil is the world's largest source of vegetable oil and global demand has increased sharply. But prices have been falling in line with other commodities.

The industry has also been blamed for terrible environmental damage as natural forests are cleared for palm plantations.

Cargill is one of the world's largest agricultural food companies, that also grows and trades palm oil.

Cargill Tropical Palm chief executive John Hartmann spoke to the BBC's Rico Hizon, and told him that conditions are currently tough in the palm oil industry, and that sustainability was one of its biggest challenges.
