Perjury suspect arraigned

SSCENTLUDINGTON — Elizabeth Marie Whitaker, 29, of Ludington, was arraigned Friday, Aug. 28, in 79th District Court on one count of perjury during a court proceeding.

The charge is related to Whitaker’s testimony during a trial in Mason County in February of 2014, according to a press release from the State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT). Perjury is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Whitaker was arrested at her home Thursday, Aug. 27, by SSCENT detectives, Michigan Department of Corrections probation/parole officers, and Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies. She is lodged in the Mason County Jail.
