10 events to look forward to in September

With all the attention focusing on Pope Francis' visit to Philadelphia on Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27, other events this upcoming month may be forgotten — except they shouldn't.

Here are 10 other events to look forward to:

Made in America
Saturday, Sept. 5 & Sunday, Sept. 6
Benjamin Franklin Parkway
One of the biggest summer music festivals returns for two days of live music featuring renown DJs, hip-hop artists, pop stars, and even local musicians. Some names worth mentioning for this year include: Beyonce, J. Cole, Bassnectar, Death Cab For Cutie, Santigold, and Cedric Gervais. Gates open both days at noon.

Philadelphia Honey Festival
Friday, Sept. 11 through Sunday, Sept. 13
Various Locations
Things get sticky on the second weekend of September as the Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild presents their sixth annual Honey Festival. Throughout the three days, guests will get the 411 on honey extraction, sip on beers made with honey, and even take part in beekeeping. Participating locations include: Wyck Historic House (60626 Germantown Ave.), The Wagner Free Institute of Science (1700 West Montgomery Ave.), Bartram's Garden (5400 Lindbergh Blvd.). Times vary.

Devon Fall Classic
Thursday, Sept. 10 through Sunday, Sept. 13
Devon Horse Show Grounds (23 Dorset Rd.)
If you miss the Devon Horse Show, a shorter edition of the 11-day festival returns this fall with a weekend of galloping entertainment. Each day will feature competitive horse-show action highlighting various jumping, age, and meter categories. Gates open at 8 a.m. each day.

Greenfest Philly
Sunday, Sept. 13
Headhouse Square, Second Street Plaza extending to South Street
Hosted by the Clean Air Council, this environment-friendly festival provides attendees with a chance to learn more about the importance of living a healthy life through eating choices, greener methods, and more. Alongside informational vendors, visitors will have a chance to shop for goods provided by local merchants. The festival is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Funny or Die's Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival
Sunday, Sept. 13
Susquehanna Bank Center (1 Harbour Blvd.)
Aziz Ansari & Amy Schumer bring their comic performances to Camden for an afternoon of what they do best on stage — make us laugh. Aside from the headliners, other acts include Anthony Jeselnik, Dave Attell, Jeff Ross, John Mulaney, and Ashley Barnhell. Things start at 5:30 p.m.

Mt. Airy Street Fare: Sip, Savor, Stroll
Thursday, Sept. 17
On Germantown Avenue between Sedgwick Street and West Mount Airy Avenue
Mt. Airy USA's family-friendly festival returns for a night full of local vendors, craft breweries, street performers, and over 50 food trucks. Hours of the popular night market are from 6 to 10:30 p.m.

Feastival
Thursday, Sept. 17
FringeArts (140 N. Columbus Blvd.)
One of Philadelphia's greatest food events returns for its 6th year, providing us with the top culinary dishes from our local chefs and restaurants. From 7 to 10 p.m. you'll take your taste buds for a trip like as you try samples from Audrey Claire, Parc, La Peg Brasserie, and more. This annual fund-raiser benefits FringeArts.
 
National Constitution Day
Thursday, Sept. 17
National Constitution Center (525 Arch St.)
In recognition of National Constitution Day, the center celebrates our freedom with a full day of free educational and interactive activities all about our turning point in Constitutional History. Some activities throughout the day include a flag-raising ceremony, 18th century lawn games, an American citizen test show, and a Bill of Rights feature. The party begins at 8:30 a.m.

Terror Behind the Walls
Friday, Sept. 18
Eastern State Penitentiary (22nd Street & Fairmount Avenue)
ESP's Terror Behind the Walls returns for its seasonal haunt featuring 6 different terrifying attractions in and outside the prison. As you wander inside the building, you have a choice: either sit back and enjoy the spook, or go all out and sign a waiver to be touched, grabbed, and even a part of the show. Doors creak open at 7 p.m.

Eagles vs Cowboys (home opener)
Sunday, Sept. 20
Lincoln Financial Field (1 Lincoln Financial Way)
Philadelphia rejoice — the Eagles are back for the 2015 NFL Season, and what better way to kick things off at home against the Dallas Cowboys. Grab your green and head down to the Lincoln Financial Field to support our home team on their way to victory. Game starts at 4:25 p.m.
