Sustainable power is a hot topic right now and wind power is among the most talked about sources of renewable energy. Recently, Google paired with another corporation to announce a 5 billion dollar investment in building wind power infrastructure along the Atlantic Seaboard. One of our guests says that North Carolina could be a major player in the future of wind generated power. Duke Energy is already making strides in generating wind producer power but North Carolina is not one of their target areas. We?ll learn about our future as a leader in renewable energy.

I was just going thru Indiana and Iowa. I thought the turbines were very nice looking. We stopped at a rest area, close to a turbine and there was very little noise.

We have 14,600 acres (50% which is wind suitable) in Hyde County near Belhaven, NC west of Alligator Lake and southeast of the Wildlife Refuge Areas–mainly below the E-W Coulbourne Canal established in the early 1900’s.
We installed a 162 foot D.O.E. owned Met Station (anemometer/weather stat tower) about 6 months ago in Gall, the southern-most area near Highway 264 near the intracoastal waterway bridge. The Wind speed and duration is doable for power, but not like the strength of ocean winds. Our DOE tower/erection cost was less than $10,000 and we did much of the work assisted by NC State personnel.
The BIG wind company developers want to lease the lands necessary for operation. We have More-Than-Adequate Power Line Infrastucture very near and attainable with crop-only coverage on needed right-of-ways. General ballpark fees as follows:
1) Necessary land LEASE of $5/yr per acre for land
a) 150 acre plots for Turbines with 10 – 15 turbines
b) transmission line to high-t lines out
c) necessary roads
d) crop compensation for in-ground crop removal
2) 10-15 Turbines (when built) one-time payment on each
3) Each Turbine…Override $10-15,000 per year revenue-share
Question #1: The BIG WIND Developers get all these tax breaks….On a lease basis…I don’t think they are sharing much … especially on the Revenue Stream. Are there such things as “wind-wildcatters” or DIY Wind Farms?
Question #2: Why not place Solar Power Under these mammoth towers and feed/tap the power line twice.
Question #3: These Wind Farms proximity to the Coastal Water-Wind Farm Future Potential — could bode well for Local Co-Generation possibilities for Wind Turbine factories. Why not start here
