Here's an interesting take on mindset which made me ask two questions: Is it good to press down or ignore our negative/fearful/self-doubt thoughts? Or is it better to look these thoughts right in the eye, embrace them for what they are and then press through them to the other side? As Nat Berman says we have zero way of controlling our thoughts. I agree, what about you? How do you stay on top of your mental health and emotional well-being when negative thoughts come up? It's easy to see the glass as half empty rather than half full; some people even dump the glass itself! Let's be different. Something to think about.

I was recently intereviewed on a local radio programme after being asked to speak about Life After Layoff. DM me if you want the link to the recording because it's short and sweet and I drop a few important golden nuggets. Side note: Looking back I think I would much rather someone had talked to me about Life Before Layoff! Back to the present: I remember crying after signing off from the show because the magnitude of how tough that time in my life really was actually hit me. I knew deep down that everything would work out eventually because everything happens for a reason, especially if you are a woman of faith, but that didn't make the daily struggle of looking for work which then turned into starting your own business and a whole host of other stuff any easier. If you're struggling right now with being tough, I'm here to remind you of this quote by Bob Marley which says: "You never know how strong you are, until being strong is your only choice." Your circumstances do not and will not define you unless you let them; it's what you do with what happens to you that builds your character. Stand firm, stand tall, ask for help, see who else you can help, and never forget that this too shall pass (it might pass long and hard and painful like a kidney stone but it WILL pass) 🤣 That's the message. Karen Frazer and I felt it was time to take a moment to talk about Policies and Procedures for small business owners, the benefits of which are: ➡️ Consistency in operations ➡️ Legal compliance ➡️ Improved efficiency and productivity ➡️ Better risk management We dug deeper to cover the need for mobilisation and priority fees, payment schedules, termination clauses in contracts, and why it's important to load the stamina so we can face the tough conversations with clients who received services/products but fail to pay. A special thanks to Tiffany Castagno who joined us on stage and dropped some insightful golden nuggets which entrepreneurs can easily apply going forward. My biggest takeaway is that you may be a small business owner on paper, but mentally you should be running your operation as if you own an international conglomerate. Here are 7 tips to bear in mind when thinking about policies and procedures: 🎯 Be clear in how you want your business to run, step by step by step. 🎯 Be detailed in explaining these steps to your client, in your proposal and contract - get legal advice from an attorney. 🎯 Do your due diligence on clients you are not familiar with or know nothing about; research is your friend and can save you unnecessary angst. 🎯 Put everything (and we mean everything) in writing. 🎯 Consider including specific operational timelines, payment schedules and termination clauses - the latter gives you and/or your client a way out if the relationship breaks down. 🎯 Communicate regularly, clearly and concisely to manage everyone's expectations whether it be via email, telephone or WhatsApp message. 🎯 Do not be afraid of the hard conversations but keep them real and professional (without too much emotion), because at the end of the day bills have to be paid. To all small business owners in these LinkedIn streets: do not ever think you will not need Policies or Procedures; the time to create these are now if you do not already have them in place. No joke! I was kind of disappointed. There were so many things pending from the last quarter, that had to be brought forward into this new one. How though? Funnily enough, I had asked myself a similar question three months ago too 🙄 As an entrepreneur it can be overwhelming trying to keep all of the balls that we juggle suspended in the air. Let the overwhelm build up and that's when we face anxiety attacks, chest pains, acne flare ups (if you are prone to acne like I am) and insomnia. So here are three things to remember: 1. It's ok to take a moment to step back to reflect, refresh and recalibrate. 2. It's ok to start over if needed because there's nothing wrong with a "goal-edit" or a "goal-scrap" or a total "goal-do-over". 3. It's ok if the only thing you did today was breathe ... because tomorrow is another day. That's it, that's the message for those that need just a litte burst of inspiration or motivation to keep on keeping on. Do you feel overwhelmed from time to time too? Looking forward to your thoughts on this article, as sometimes we've got to do better at helping our team help themselves, especially when it comes to  serving customers efficiently. It's not that hard to empower them to take better decision-making actions - without the judgement or fault finding. What's your take?

Today marks 4 years. It's been 4 years since my entire team and I were immediately severed virtually during Covid on April 01, 2020. I was 55 years old with a mortgage, car payment and a son in his final year at university - for starters. I wasn't ready. Here is what this tough time taught me: ⚠️ Ageism is not a myth ⚠️ True friends may not be your true friends ⚠️ Company loyalty and employee loyalty are different ⚠️ No matter what, tough times do NOT last and they WILL pass Do not imagine for one moment that the last 4 years were easy. There were many days I swore I was losing my mind as I tried to keep it together while looking for a job, searching for medical insurance, making sure my son was ok and wondering about my next steps. I had a shaky start to rebuilding and reinventing my life, but here are 7 snippets of some of the good stuff: 🏆 Became intentional about protecting my mental and emotional well-being via "life time-outs" by heading back to nature 🏆 Upskilled my training facilitation game by becoming a Certified Virtual Trainer as well as a Certified Instructional Designer 🏆 Launched nVision Training Solutions, my own Training Consultancy Company; got my first client within 3 months 🏆 Bravely went live on LinkedIn and picked up 2 clients from that first livestream conversation with my co-host Karen Frazer 🏆 Started a LI newsletter featuring entrepreneurial journeys of epic entrepreneurs who we should all emulate (link in Featured section and next season coming soon) 🏆 Grew my professional and personal network to include some of the most amazing people ever across the globe 🏆 Got better at loving myself as a person - the fab and the flaws A wise man once told me: "Life is like a circle: sometimes you're on the top and sometimes you're on the bottom. Do what you need to do when you're on top so that you'll be ok when you're on the bottom." There IS Life AFTER Layoff and I'm happy to have made it this far. As we begin a brand new month ... REMEMBER THIS: You are worth more than your job. You are worth more than your role. Without your job or your role, you are still more than worthy. Do not let people tell you otherwise. End of story. That's it; that's your message. For many it can be normal to feel defined by our jobs or roles, especially the more senior we get to be in an organization. But what happens when we lose said job or role? Who are when we are not the VP of Marketing of the Director of HR? I personally know several people who struggled with this after we were severed. There was a time when the water supply in my area was turned off for days. That's when we realised just how much we needed this resource, not only for drinking but to bathe and wash our hair, flush our toilets, wash our hands, get the dirt off veggies as well as fruits, rinse off meats, wash our clothes, clean our cars and spray down our drive ways ... I needed my water! Today is World Water Day, a United Nations designated day observed every year on March 22 and dedicated to raising awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. The theme for 2023 was "Accelerating the change to solve the water and sanitation crisis" ... and unfortunately it's still very much a serious crisis in 2024. Here's what the stats have to say: According to the World Health Organization (WHO) an estimated 1.8 billion people globally use a source of drinking water that is contaminated with feces. According to UN Water over 80% of the world's wastewater is released into the environment without being treated According to the IPCC climate change is projected to increase the frequency as well as intensity of extreme weather events e.g. floods and droughts, which can have a significant impact on water supplies. So how can we play our part in raising awareness about the critical importance of water as a resource needed for life? Here are some suggestions, a few of which I've implemented myself: 1. We can do more to conserve water e.g. by fixing leaking faucets and promptly reporting damaged mains in our streets. We can also collect rain water for cleaning our vehicles and yards, and for watering our gardens. 2. We can learn more about water conservation, water pollution and the serious impact of climate change on our water resources. 3. We can help spread awareness by partnering with local water authority agencies, schools and churches and other organizations, and assisting them in the education of our children as well as our communities about the importance of conserving water. I believe we can save our world together; let's do our part to keep our globe blue so it can remain green because water is life. That's the message. What are you consciously doing to raise awareness?
