DECLARED: A mid-air alert was called-in on an Air France flight leaving Paris

A technical fault was reported just minutes after it left the French capital on a 4,400 mile journey to Cayenne, in South America.

It reportedly circled outside Paris while dumping fuel.

The exact nature of the fault on the Air France flight AF852 was not immediately made clear.

According to Air France, the craft suffered a compressor stall during take-off.

It landed back at Paris Ory International Airport at just after midday local time (11am GMT) where it was taken to a holding area.

It is unclear when it will resume its journey.

An Air France spokeswoman told Daily Star Online: "We confirm that flight AF852 from Paris-Orly to CAY on 25 March 2016 returned to Paris, in line with aircraft manufacturer and company procedures, after having detected an engine dysfunction during take-off.

"The aircraft landed in Paris-CDG for better assistance and rerouting for customers."
