Mattias Ekström takes controversial World Rallycross win

Mattias Ekström claimed a controversial victory in the Swedish round of the World Rallycross Championship in Höljes as rival driver Timmy Hansen was stripped of the victory post-race by the stewards.

The double DTM champion had clawed his way back into the lead of the final round after a poor start. Hansen was gaining on him towards the end of the race and muscled his way past on the final lap.

But the Peugeot driver’s joy was short lived as the stewards penalised him for exceeding track limits, moving him from first to second in the results.

Former WRC champion Petter Solberg had to retire from the final heat but still heads the championship ahead of former STCC champion Johan Kristoffersson. Ekström is placed seventh in the drivers’ championship.
