Shining Falls Lodge

My wife and I have been married for 12 years.  And for this anniversary my wife and Travel Manitoba had the great idea to send us to Shining Falls Lodge in Northern Manitoba, situated in Family Lake.  And this was a truly amazing vacation that I will never forget.

Shining Falls from the air

Our adventure started in Bisset Manitoba were we jumped on a Twin Otter float plane and journeyed 50 miles straight north. The bumpy ride ended at the Shining Falls Lodge where we were promptly greeted by staff at the dock. We met the owners and guides while our bags and gear where unloaded and brought to our cabins. We received a tour of the amazing facilities and then hit the water. Our friendly guides then immediately offered to take us onto the lake for our first crack at the lake. We went to a nearby island and I began my fishing excursion. It was the second cast and I felt the bite. Yes two casts in and I had our first fish. A 3 lb Walleye and that was just the beginning. The rest of the week was full of fish after fish after fish. However there was one fish that triumphed all fish. On the second evening of our week long adventure, after an extended fight I pulled a 44 inch Northern Pike. A Master Angler by Manitoba standards. That moment will be with me forever. And the best part is my wife was there to see my smile and excitement.

As for the rest of the trip, the other treat that we experienced several times a day was the food. Every meal prepared by the staff was an experience and great is not even close to describing it. Whether it was a shore lunch or a perfectly grilled steak, we ate like kings. The skilled chefs cooked their meals and our fish with care so we would be satisfied.

The facilities were A+, with daily cleaning and cabins and a superb dinning hall. All was clean and more than met my expectations. The grounds were clean and very well taken care of. Everything from the well lit clean paths, to the raked sandy beach was a little piece of paradise.

All in all the only piece I did not like about the resort was when we had to leave. I have to admit, when the plane landed at the dock to take us away I was a little sad that I needed to come back to reality and back to the outside world.

I could go on and on about this place, but I think you need to experience this place for yourself and see why I am so excited and can’t wait to go back. www.shiningfallslodge.com.
